Linux Web Hosting VS Windows Web Hosting

Many of the web hosting providers offers two kinds of hosting: Linux Hosting and Windows Hosting. In general, most user prefer using Linux hosting due to its affordable price and flexibility, it is also compatible with PHP and MySQL, which supports scripts such as WordPress, Zen Cart, and phpBB, while Windows Hosting, on the other hand offers Windows-specific technologies such as ASP, .NET, Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL server (MSSQL).

WHAT IF MY PC RUNS WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM, DO I HAVE TO USE WINDOWS WEB HOSTING?

NO. The type of hosting of which you choose has nothing to do with the operating system that your PC runs.

WHY IS LINUX WEB HOSTING HOSTING IS CHEAPER THAN WINDOWS WEB HOSTING?

Linux operating system is a free open source; therefore, all of the web hosting  providers does not need to pay for licensing fees for using Linux Operating System as their hosting servers. In general, web hosting providers that uses Linux operating system are able to offer lower prices for this type of web hosting service.

WHICH WEB HOSTING SERVICE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

It greatly depends on what kind of technologies your website needs. For example, if you would like to start a blog with WordPress or Joomla, or setup an online forum using phpBB, then Linux web hosting will be a great choice for you. However, if your website requires specific Microsoft technologies such as MSSQL, you are required to use Windows hosting.

How to host your own blog/website?

Of course we cannot start a website without a web hosting server, basically two types of hosting platforms Linux Hosting and Windows Hosting.

Questions:

What is the difference between this two platforms?

Answers:

Linux Hosting, which allows running scripts written in PHP, Perl, Python and other Unix-originated languages, and usually supports PostgreSQL and MySQL databases. This is the most commonly used system today.
Windows Hosting, which allows running ASP scripts utilizing .NET and other Microsoft technologies, and supports Microsoft SQL Server and Access database.

For me I usually use Linux Hosting since my website doesn’t require any scripting support and I find Linux hosting more cost-effective.

Example of the Web Hosting company that uses Linux Hosting is Skylink Hosting an Australian web hosting company with a server is in Sydney. You can visit the site for more information as I will not discuss further since the topic is how to start your own blog/website.
